Is there an indoor grill that you can put wood chips in to give your food that smoky flavor?

Is there an indoor grill that you can put wood chips in to give your food that smoky flavor?

I want to but a grill, but I do more cooking on the inside that I do on the outside. And I love grilled meat with that charcoal or smoky flavor to it. Is there a grill you can buy that you can put wood chip or charcoal (hey, I'm just asking) in to give your food that outdoor grilled flavor? If there is, where do I buy one from?

I remember watching a show on Food Network about indoor smoking. I could not find that particular segment, but here is Emeril's solution!

YOU MUST NEVER (I REPEAT, NEVER) GRILL OR SMOKE FOOD INDOORS WITH WOOD OR CHARCOAL!!!! YOU COULD TOPPLE OVER THE CHARCOAL OR WOOD CHIPS AND SET YOUR HOUSE ON FIRE!!!!

    sorry

You can make one yourself with a heavy foil container. Then add a wire rack to it. Then place your chips in with the charcoal. Cover tightly with thick aluminum foil. Place on your two top burners if Gas. Smoke away. Should last a couple times with the heavy foil pans.

What do you do with the smoke.

When you just can't get outside to grill, try one of these excellent indoor electric grills. While you won't get the authentic flavor you can still grill. Some of these units are open grills that you cook on similar to an outdoor grill. Others are contact grills (like the George Foreman Grill) that have a lid that cooks also, so you can grill on both sides at the same time. Many of these units are prefect for grilling a fish fillet and making a great panini style sandwich. Updated for 2007.
    1. DeLonghi Alfredo Healthy Grill BG24

DeLonghiThis open face electric grill has a removable, easy to clean cast aluminum cooking surface that gives you a more authentic grilling appliance. With an adjustable thermostat (removable) and good drainage you really get a healthier meal off this grill. This unit also has an "aroma scenter" that lets you add flavor to what you're cooking by adding such things as garlic or rosemary. About 140 square inches of cooking area.

    2. Sanyo Smokeless Indoor Grill

SanyoFill the drip pan of this electric grill with water and dripping grease won't burn, and won't create smoke. Reasonably priced (around $50USD) this is a great electric grill with around 200 square inches of cooking area. This will give you plenty of space to prepare a whole meal without leaving the kitchen.

    3. BonJour Power 1800 Reversible Grill and Griddle 10600

BonJourThis large electric grill (about 240 square inches of cooking area) has a reversible surface that gives you a solid grill surface or a griddle. This is perfect for simple grilling tasks and cooking everything from sandwiches to pancakes. If you want something a little more versatile then this is a very good unit. The grill surface is closed so you don't get effective drainage but you do get good heat for grilling everything from burgers to fish fillets.

    4. Cuisinart Griddler GR-4

Cuisinart Inc.This is a contact grill that gives you the ability to grill anything from panini sandwiches to steaks while cooking on both sides. The reversible cooking surfaces let you get good grill markets for your steak, but also let you cook pancakes. This is a very versatile grill. You also get a wide range of temperature control and the ability to set different temperatures on each side of the grill.

    5. Breville TG900 Professional Grill & Sandwich Press
This might be one of the more expensive of this style of contact grill, but the construction is excellent. This grill works as a panini press, but also folds completely open to give you around 370 square inches of grilling space, making this one of the largest of the indoor electric grills. This is a highly versatile unit and if you have not trouble with the nearly $200 price tag I'd suggest buying this unit.

    6. George Foreman GRP90WGR Grill

Salton Co.The Foreman grill has made George and the Salton company a lot of money. This contact grill comes with 5 interchangeable, dishwasher safe plates so you have a lot of versatility with your indoor grilling. This is the latest Foreman grill so includes many improvements over early models.

    7. Krups FDE312-75 Universal Grill and Panini Maker
This electric contact grill has a floating hinge that adjusts to the thickness of the food you are grilling. While this unit works best as a panini press it is great for many grilling functions. While the heat output is not very adjustable you can do a lot with this unit. The construction is great and the price at around $80 is very reasonable. Around 160 square inches of cooking area.

    8. DeLonghi Perfecto BG24 Indoor Grill
This is one of the few indoor electric grills with a lid. This open style grill gives you the ability to hold in juices while grilling a wide range of foods. The large cooking area will give you lots of verasatility and the adjustable thermostat lets you grill steaks hot and fish over a medium heat. The added bonus of a glass lid will give you more functionality than most open grills.

    9. Hamilton Beach 25285 MealMaker Express Grill
This contact grill delivers real heat so you can grill up most items in a short time. The cooking surfaces are removable and dishwasher safe so you don't need to worry about scrubbing the cooking surfaces. The biggest failing of this grill is it's small size. At only 60 square inches of cooking area you really only have the space to cook for about two people. However the design lets you cook pretty much anything.

    10. George Foreman GR36TMR Jumbo with Timer
This is a large version of the traditional Foreman grill. The 120 square inches of cooking area will let you prepare a meal for a small family. This is an easy to use unit though without temperature control or removable cooking surfaces you should probably look at something a little higher on the list.

Don't know about the indoor grill, but there is some stuff called Liquid Smoke that works pretty good. I use it from time to time and it isn't bad. Like you, I love the grilled meat with that smokey flavor……..
I did see a grill at walmart, I believe you could put wood chips in it and use it indoors. You might want to check it out. It is shaped like one of the barrel grills only smaller. I can't remember the name of it, may have been something like Mr. Grill…….not sure. I do know I saw it at walmart at Christmas time (hoped Santa would bring me one, but no luck! LOL)

Here is a site that has several different models for you to choose from as well as price ranges also. I would suggest the cast iron model however, even though it is more expensive and heavier. Cast iron distributes heat very well and you don't have heat concentrated in one spot. The heat spreads out across the whole smoker in this case. Good Luck! I hope this helps!
